GWO Basic Safety Training Initial or Refresher module - Working at Heights

Training Location

On-site at your Wind Farm or at our approved training locations.

Course aim

The course is designed to provide you with the basic skills that will enable you to work at height in a safe manner in the wind industry and meet emergency response training requirements for personnel new to the Global Wind Industry.

Learning activities

The course involves theory information in a classroom environment and practical exercises on tower structures.
Topics covered include:
Relevant legislation.
Safe systems of work
Methods of fall protection
Overview of wind turbines
Care of personal protective equipment (PPE)
Emergency planning
Correct use of PPE
Safe access and egress
Safety whilst at height
Industry specific requirements
Use of rescue equipment
Rescue scenarios

Learning outcomes

The theory elements will allow individuals to show a sound understanding of knowledge relevant to working at height and the practical exercises require individuals to demonstrate a variety of access and rescue techniques.


Two days Initial and One day refersher


Maximum for theory is 12. Maximum for practical exercises is 4 participants to 1 Instructor.

Assessment approach

Demonstration of practical skills. Role play/scenario work. Written and practical assessment.
