Description

This Course is for people working in vertical environments that may be required to undertake vertical rescue operations as members of a rescue team. The programme is designed to compliment your basic safety and heights training and will cover safe work practices and rescue procedures completed in accordance with workplace and legislative requirements.

The course encompasses a range of vertical rescue situations, assessing rescue scenes and establishing vertical rescue systems. This training has a strong emphasis on the use of equipment and hands-on scenarios. Participants are required to participate in the rescue and evacuation exercises and must be physically fit to do so.

The course can vary in duration depending on your needs however the aim is to enable practical scenarios to ensure familiarity with rescue techniques and your site based rescue and emergency response plans.

The course is delivered by experienced industry professionals, bringing a depth of knowledge to the learner.

Course aim

The course is designed to provide the learner with the knowledge and skills to enable them to safely perform vertical rescue at heights and dealing with advanced rescues at heights.

Target learner group

For technicians and specialists working in wind turbines that are required to work safely throughout the Wind Turbine Generator (WTGs) while accessing any areas and may be called upon to conduct rescue procedures.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, a learner will have developed an understanding of the following:

  • Relevant Legislation and Standards
  • Prepare and respond to vertical rescue situations
  • Emergency management
  • Scene assessment and reporting
  • Select appropriate equipment for the rescue
  • Check, service and maintain vertical rescue equipment
  • Work within team roles and responsibilities
  • Perform safe and successful vertical rescue operations
  • Casualty assessment and packaging
  • Escort stretchers in raising and lowering operations
  • Safety factors and Safe Working Loads of equipment
  • Establish vertical rescue systems
  • Ascending and descending systems
  • Haul lines and mechanical advantage
  • Vertical rescue concepts and practices.
  • Terminate vertical rescue operations

The course will prepare attendees for incident management and how to perform vertical rescues in the simplest, safest, most efficient way possible. Training addresses the use of stretchers, casualty management and lifting and lowering techniques from the structure using industry specific equipment.

Equipment & PPE

Learners are required to have the following to participate in this course:

  • Personal Protective Equipment (e.g. Hard Hat, Safety Footwear, Approved Hi-Vis Clothing, Safety Glasses)
  • Stationary (e.g. Pen, Pencil, etc.)

Assessment approach

Learners will be assessed using a combination of the following methods:

  • Theory/Written Assessment (e.g. Short Answer Questions, Multiple Choice, Verbal Questioning Interview)
  • Direct Observation/Practical Assessment (e.g. Workplace, Simulated Environment, Role Play/Scenario)

Course Entry Requirements

To participate in this course, learners are required to:

  • have current certification in the required prerequisite, PUASAR022 Participate in a rescue operation.
  • have suitable English language skills in reading and writing, as well as numeracy skills to meet the course requirements
  • have a level of physical fitness to participate in practical activities

Accreditation Status

Nationally recognised training.
Upon successful completion, learners will receive a statement of attainment.
