TLID0020 - Shift Materials Safely Using Manual Handling Methods

Description

This course provides the learner the skills and knowledge required to shift loads safely using manual handling methods, encourages delegates to consider alternatives to manual handling through planning and to train delegates ability to perform Manual Handling tasks in a safe manner in the HV and wind turbine industry/environments. Work must be carried out in compliance with the relevant work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) regulations concerning the manual handling and movement of loads. Work is performed under some supervision generally within a team environment.

Course aim

This course is designed to educate attendees with a basic awareness of the dangers associated with manual handling and practical tuition in handling techniques.

Target learner group

This training provides the practical skills and knowledge for safe work in industrial, mining, and power industries. This unit is appropriate for ESI employees for authorization/approval to work on ESI Networks. This training meets the compliance and the safety requirements of these industries.

Learning activities

Delivery includes:

  • Trainer led classroom presentations
  • Theory assessment
  • Onsite practical exercises and assessment

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, a learner will have developed an understanding of the following:

  • safe systems of work;
  • basic anatomy;
  • manual handling tasks;
  • safe manual handling techniques;
  • alternatives to manual handling;
  • assessing the risks associated with relocating the load;
  • planning the relocation process; and
  • carrying out the relocation in accordance with the plan.

Equipment & PPE

Learners are required to have the following to participate in this course:

  • Personal Protective Equipment (e.g. Hard Hat, Safety Footwear, Approved Hi-Vis Clothing, Safety Glasses)
  • Heights equipment (e.g. Harness, ascender, descender, etc.), as per company procedures
  • Stationary (e.g. Pen, Pencil, etc.)

Assessment approach

Learners will be assessed using a combination of the following methods:

  • Theory/Written Assessment (e.g. Short Answer Questions, Multiple Choice, Verbal Questioning Interview)
  • Direct Observation/Practical Assessment (e.g. Workplace, Simulated Environment, Role Play/Scenario)

To participate in this course, learners are required to:

  • have current certification in the required prerequisites.
  • be literate in spoken English and competent in reading, writing, and numeracy.
  • be sufficiently fit to participate.
