Description

Those gaining this qualification will be able to acquire the skills and knowledge needed for a career in the Electricity Supply Industry. The scope of this qualification covers: Cable Jointing such as the laying, installation and maintenance of de-energised Low Voltage and High Voltage underground polymeric cables and the installation and maintenance of electrical equipment. Options are available for skills to be obtained for energised cables and or Low Voltage and High Voltage paper insulated cables.

Packaging Rules and Requirements

A total of 23 units comprising:

The elective units are to be chosen as follows:

  • 3 elective units selected from Group A
  • 2 elective units may be selected from Group A or Group B, of which, 1 elective unit may be selected, with appropriate contextualisation, from a qualification in this or any other endorsed Training Package, provided the selected unit contributes to the vocational outcome of the qualification.

  • UETDRDU013 Joint, terminate and maintain high voltage underground polymeric cable
  • UETDRDU015 Joint, terminate and maintain low voltage underground polymeric cable
  • UETDREL001 Apply environmental requirements
  • UETDREL004 Operate plant and equipment in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus
  • UETDREL005 Work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus
  • UETDRIS008 Install and maintain electrical apparatus
  • UETDRIS011 Install and maintain low voltage underground services

Group A Elective Units:

  • UETDRDU011 Joint, terminate and maintain energised low voltage underground polymeric cable
  • UETDRDU016 Lay power cables
  • UETDRDU019 Transition joint high voltage paper insulated cable to high voltage polymeric cable

Group B Elective Units:

  • UETDRDU017 Locate faults in underground power cables
  • UETDRIS017 Perform high voltage field switching operation to a given schedule
  • UETDRIS018 Perform low voltage field switching operation to a given schedule
  • UETDRSB001 Perform substation switching operations to a given schedule

Learners are required to have the following to participate in this course:

  • Personal Protective Equipment (e.g. Hard Hat, Safety Footwear, Approved Hi-Vis Clothing, Safety Glasses)
  • Heights equipment (e.g. Harness, ascender, descender, as per company procedures)
  • Stationary (e.g. Pen, Pencil, etc.)

Assessment approach

Learners will be assessed using a combination of the following methods:

  • Theory/Written Assessment (e.g. Short Answer Questions, Multiple Choice, Verbal Questioning Interview)
  • Direct Observation/Practical Assessment (e.g. Workplace, Simulated Environment, Role Play/Scenario)
  • Portfolio (e.g. Logbook, Third Party Reports)

To participate in this course, learners are required to:

  • have current certification in the required prerequisites.
  • be literate in spoken English and competent in reading, writing, and numeracy.
  • be sufficiently fit to participate.

Accreditation Status

Nationally recognised training.
Upon successful completion, learners will receive a qualification.
